Do you think its okay to bathe my puppy?

I have an eight week old yorkie/bichon mix puppy. My vet told me not to bathe him more often than every 6 weeks. This seems to be a long time. He had his very first bath the day I got him 12 days ago. The problem is, its been raining all week so he is kinda stinky and dirty. He is an inside dog, he only goes out to potty and for walks, but he loves to dig and to run under my bushes. He also needs his hair trimmed again around his eyes so he can see and around his potty area. I am too nervous to trim his eye hair as he is very wiggly :) I was going to take him to the groomer to have them do this for me. Do you think it would be okay to have them bathe him or should I wait? I understand I cant bathe him this often all the time, but would you make an exception if he was dirtier than normal? I'm afraid how he will smell if I wait another month. Thanks in advance for your help.
